Logan
“But he can heal!! He can heal right?! He’s done it before why not now?!!” I cry as they drag me into a padded cell.
I don’t even wanna talk about it man. I know how this ends yet I still went back in. Just to come out the same as last time, defeated and wanting to cry. I don’t know what does it for me more the, “You don’t have to fight anymore”, or the, “It wasn’t me Charles it wasn’t me”. Ugh this film fills me with pure sorrow and pain. I laugh, I cry, I have the time of my life. I still question if they’ve made a X-men film as harrowing and cruel as this one. Theres so much crass behaviour behind the characters and it’s such a genius adaptation from the Old Man Logan series. The ending while it kills me every time, works so well. For his whole life he lost people who he cared about, but just this once, this one time he saved someone he cared about. It hurts me so much because it’s like he finally did it, but at what cost?
Logan has such powerful character growth, it fills you with joy that you see a new X-Men film targeted around Logan. Then you’re hit with grief, identity, loss, redemption. It’s such an incredible film and arguably one of if not the greatest superhero films ever. It’s up there with Spider-Man 1/2 (I can’t remember Which I prefer). Where they show the troubles and problems of being a hero, yet none have hit this hard. There’s something about seeing an old Logan that has lost nearly everything. He’s at his breaking point, he’s rough and rugged. He’s harsh and brutal, but along this journey of a film he starts to almost realise who he was/is and in that moment he becomes not Wolverine, but Logan. I really love this film, it’s a seriously good comic book movie and movie in general. What I worked towards/looked forward the most to revisiting expecting a different ending get I’m hit by the same gut wrenching truck speeding at me.
I also saw the Noir version, in which if you are confused on what that is my backdrop shows a good example. If you are also still confused it’s a black and white version in which it makes it feel more cold and emotionally distant. It came with my Blu ray which I very much appreciate from the company that I bought it from (Amazon). I prefer the colour but I do dig the idea!
Also side note, I want to be more free about my opinion because a while back I said I’m redoing my ratings because my dad thought they were too high. But over the time I’ve realised I agree to an extent I don’t want to hand them out to any fulm I think is funny to have at 5. But at the same time I don’t want to be some critic, this is my account and the ratings should be MY opinion. It shouldn’t matter if someone thing’s I rate too highly. So basically in shorter words, I’m going by my personal opinion instead of fearing of rating you highly or lowly. Because with Letterboxd it should be YOUR opinion. Anyway if you read this bit thanks. Have a nice day!😌🫶
