Prisoners
So good. I don’t know why I waited so long to finally watch Prisoners, but I knew I needed to be prepared and the experience definitely lived up to the hype.
The film delivers some of the best acting performances I’ve ever seen in a thriller. As I expected Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal are both outstanding. But Paul Dano also deserves a lot of praise. His roles often fly under the radar, yet he deserves far more credit in general for his acting skills. Similar to his role as the Riddler in The Batman he brings such a disturbing presence to the film with this style of character really allowing him to showcase his acting abilities to their full extent.
The soundtrack is fantastic, with the score during the drive to the hospital at the end standing out as my main standout musical moment in the film. That's easily one of my favourite scenes in the entire film despite it contrasting so heavily with the rest of the films look and the score is a big reason for it being so good.
It’s shocking, harrowing, gripping and brilliantly constructed from start to finish. The ending is absolutely perfect and ties everything together in an amazing way, while still leaving it open to interpretation.
