Rush Hour

My favourite comedy film.  I’m probably on my 10th viewing of Rush Hour, and it still never fails to make me laugh. It’s original, non stop entertainment. While the obvious highlight is the brilliant comedic chemistry between Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan, the central plot centered on the kidnapping of Soo Yung is surprisingly well crafted and is even better than I remembered. The film’s main villain isn’t just a throwaway antagonist and I found for him to become pretty menacing as the film went on. I found this to add some real weight to the story beneath the humor. Something that from what I've seen not many other comedy films in the 90s pulled off as successfully. As expected with a film starring Jackie Chan the stunts are absolutely amazing. The fight scenes are elite and inventive in there use of everyday objects found in the characters surroundings. The bar fight scene which is one of a kind. The choice to blend comedy and action throughout the film was excellent. I think that this style of fight scene made for some of the best and most memorable moments in the entire film. Rush Hour revolutionised the art of comedy in action sequences. You can see the influence of this in a very wide range of big blockbusters to this day. Especially in marvel films which seem to rarely have an action sequence without a comedic moment of some kind. (But if we're being honest their jokes just aren't funny) 💔 Rush hour is iconic and in my opinion is the perfect example of what comedy should be.
