Black Panthers
The Criterion Challenge 2023: 3/52
Agnès Varda is one of my favorite directors because of her beautiful view on people. I think she is the best to ever show on film people's true nature and emotions, and she makes it seem effortless.
The Black Panther movement is shown perfectly in this film because Varda does the perfect balance between what the party stands for and the people involved in the struggle, not only people like Huey Newton and Stokely Carmichael, but ordinary people participating in the rallies.
This film is beautiful and depicts the struggle of black people in the most real light possible.
