"It takes an idiot to do cool things. That's why it's cool."
Literally one of the coolest animes I’ve ever watched. The rock music, the visual style, the constant shifts in animation, and the pure chaos makes everything feel unforgettable. At first I barely understood what was happening until it became clear that Haruko was literally an alien which somehow still doesn’t explain half of it. But that’s part of why it works; beneath all of that absurdity, it really captures what growing up feels like when you're stuck in that weird stage between childhood and adolescence. Naota’s boredom, his brother’s absence, and the confusing presence of three different girls around him, all of them reflecting different emotional impulses like idealization, hormonal confusion, and eventually a more genuine kind of connection and understanding.
It’s strange, nostalgic, and emotionally more real than it first seems. Ugh I got so jealous of a comment that said they’ve watched it on Adult Swim when it was released.
