Frankenstein
Really really well made film. Cinematography is insanely good. Oscar Isaac does a fantastic job playing Victor Frankenstein. This is not your childhood Frankenstein film. I vaguely remember Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein from high school English class and this film stays completely true to that story. It is quite artsy and poetic and does get a bit boring at some points, but it all just part of the story. I liked how it was broken into Victor’s story and then later the monster’s story. It tells a lot about the philosophical crisis that the monster is faced with but also the haunted and twisted mind of Dr. Frankenstein. Creating the monster was only part of the problem. My favorite part was probably the connection between the old man and the spirit of the forest. No one can conquer death.
