Scream 7
„You have always had my back, Gale. I should have gone to New York. I should have been there for you. And I was wrong about something. I do trust… I trust you.“
What a dream finally getting to see a Scream movie in the theater. My love for this franchise and the original characters is beyond anything else.
I love it when they bring back original characters, like they did with Billy in Scream 5. I just wish Stu Macher really wasn’t dead…
I also love that they didn’t use CGI for the deceased characters like Stu Macher or Dewey Riley, but brought back the actual actors instead.
With so many film series that span decades, I usually don’t feel any connection between the first and the new films because the past is often neglected, but that’s what I love so much about Scream. You can actually feel that Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers are the same characters they were in the first movies. That’s also thanks to how much they hold on to the past, that’s what makes it feel so natural. Because, to be honest, no one would just move on like that after being terrorized as a teenager and nearly murdered a thousand times. I feel like everyone who says they find it ridiculous that the franchise clings so tightly to the 90s films probably doesn’t get the point of the Scream franchise. And it’s always been that way, whether it’s Ghostfaces obsessed with the original murders and legacy characters, a shrine filled with mementos from previous murders or murders taking place in the original order. Oh and btw, I’ve heard people say they found the Ghostfaces’ motives ridiculous, Stu, Mickey, and Charlie had no motive at all (and we loved them), so I think that should be perfectly fine here.
Isabel May was perfectly cast. I never thought I’d see her in my favorite franchise, but she’s just an unbelievable good actress and nailed it completely.
I absolutely love seeing Neve Campbell back where she belongs. I missed her so incredibly much in the sixth one and especially that Sidney and Gale couldn’t fight Ghostface together. It just didn’t feel right at all. I love that my two favorite Final Girls had more screen time together than in the fifth movie.
Seeing Gale so fragile broke my heart in every way. Yet another proof that killing Dewey is the most stupid thing they’ve ever done in this entire franchise. And I swear, if Sid or Gale dies while this franchise is still running, Spyglass Entertainment will hear from me. I hope Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell will still be fighting Ghostface when they’re 80 years old.
It’s sad that they burned Stu Macher’s house. It held so much history, but I could imagine them rebuilding it as a set for the filming of a Stab movie.
Of course, I have to talk about Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Firing Melissa because she was too political was absolutely wrong. I would have loved to see Sam Carpenter, Tara Carpenter and Tatum Evans fighting Ghostface together.
But you know what, Spyglass Entertainment, maybe It’s not too late. They’ve reached a deal with Neve Campbell, and I was genuinely worried they’d never pay her what she deserves and that I‘d never see my beloved Sidney again. There might still be a way to bring Melissa back, because she did nothing wrong.
And I really loved Sam and Tara, they were amazing in the franchise.
I’ve already made it clear that Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt aren’t my favorite writers in this franchise and you can tell they had a hand in this script. As a major Scream fan who cares deeply about this franchise, is this the weakest one? Idk maybe (honestly, it's hard to tell because I love them all) Does it deserve all the hate? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I’m so grateful that Kevin Williamson directed this film. After Wes Craven, he’s the only person who could do it justice. Can’t wait for the next one.
