i wish i lived near a cool movie theater and not just a regal with the speakers blown out

Men tend to latch on to these idealized versions of women. These fantasies take forefront to the actual human being behind them. There is so much to say about the film’s blatant commentary on men’s incompetence and need to victimize themselves. The fact the Bear uses the wish not to change himself for Nikki, but to fundamentally control her autonomy instead, really says everything. And the film uses this as a vehicle for some of the most mean-spirited and uncomfortable horror filmmaking I’ve seen in a while.

This is such a weird movie because on one hand you have one of the most fascinating modern figures diluted down into a boring “I want to be independent” character, a script so uninteresting and lazy that even a Colman Domingo performance feels like cardboard, AND an awful CGI monkey. But on the other hand you have Jaafar Jackson PERFECTLY embodying the energy and presence of Michael while performing some of the most entertaining and exhilarating music scenes that NEED to be watched on the loudest and biggest screen possible.
