Although the Lion King was such a big part of my early childhood, I have seldom, if at all, revisited it in my adult years. Despite the amazing soundtrack and powerful rush of nostalgia, I have hesitated to watch it at times, just because I know what’s coming. It will never be easy watching that one scene in particular, but this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Watching it now as an adult, I appreciated and understood how much Mufasa reflects the heart of the Father. It brings him joy to see his son’s delight and pain to see him in strife. He is stern, but fair, and does everything out of love for his son, even if it means sacrificing his own life. Edit: Instead of sacrificing his own life I had initially written “paying the ultimate price”. However, after reading this again, I realised this wasn’t true. Mufasas deepest sorrow wouldn’t be the loss of his own life, but the life of his son.
