Rashomon
wish i came into this completely blind, but this is an important film
how testimonies can be used to embellish or conceal someone’s true intent, to the context driving these different accounts. as in the real, lived context of the time, and of the ego too and how it shifts the nature of truth. and how a jurist is supposed to piece these all together to a cogent narrative when they cannot, and finally how does an average lay person take this in?
would be a topskii double feature w 12 angry men i can’t lie
the score had a clear direction, there was active intent. b&w just compels you to be with them, the woodcutter & the priest. loved the camera work too.
first kurosawa, i enjoyed you mann
