Arrival
despite knowing the journey, and where it leads , i embrace it. and i welcome every moment of it 𓏲ּ𝄢ּ ֶָ˙ ⟡
well i'll be damned. this movie's actually as good as the reviews make it seem. i'm easily impressed when it comes to watching movies in general, but this one left my jaw on the floor. it's already one of the most hauntingly beautiful movies ever ♡.
the theme of arrival is carried by the love of a mother. general shang changes his mind through a bootstrap paradox (one of my biggest obsessions) enabled by the heptapod language—love once again, makes the impossible, possible. what i love is, if you knew you'd have your heart broken but be so happy at the beginning, would you still do it? it's the epitome of ‘it was the worst time of my life, but i wouldn't change a thing.’
thinking about the heptapod who would’ve died; abbott still came to earth anyway to deliver his message. what's really interesting is that they never refer to him being dead, but rather in the death process. because they see present, future, and past at the same time. he is in the death process, as we all are, really. wouldn’t it be amazing to live in those few perfect moments we get? because non-linear beings can do that. arrival definitely wasn’t the first attempt to address non-linear time in film, but it was the most beautiful attempt i’ve seen so far. to stand at the far side of your life and look back to see all the moments that made a difference for others. instead of being locked in this one directional life, just moving through because we can’t see how those brief moments will set off beautiful memories for others. to see that we mattered.
