Squid Game
SEASON THREE DOES NOT EXIST.
so disappointed. season one was the best it could get, it was actually interesting and well-written. season two was alright, it was fun and it kept me entertained. then it started getting so boring, the storyline between no-eul and gyeong-seok was more interesting than the actual game itself.
i'm still trying to wrap my head around how the show went from being so amazing and great to just feeling like a shadow of its season one self. the vips are just so jarring, it's like they're from a different show altogether. and don't even get me started on the character selection for the final game—it felt like they picked the most random people just to check boxes. where's the depth? where's the complexity? it's like they took all the interesting characters and killed them off just to make room for some forgettable faces.
i think what really gets me is how much potential this season had. there were some truly great characters. 120, 124, 149, people who could have been developed so much more. but nope, they all got killed off way too early. it's like the writers were more interested in shocking us with random deaths than actually giving us a chance to connect with the characters. and gi-hun, MY GIHUN. he deserved so much better than to be stuck in this mess. i am devastated about what happened with him but i saw it coming. and even if i didn’t completely like it made sense. if he won once again he would just be more depressed.
maybe i'm just nostalgic for season one, but it feels like the show lost its way. the things that made squid game so compelling in the first place. survival, human nature, the commentary on society—it all literally felt watered down this season. instead of a well written narrative, we got a bunch of loose ends that didn't really add up. it's a shame, because i was really invested in this show, and i wanted to see it succeed. but as it stands, i'm just disappointed.
