GoodFellas
*“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”*

There is a reason this film is considered a masterpiece, and honestly, it lives up to every single bit of the hype. Scorsese maintains his reputation as the greatest of this genre, and one of the all time greats of cinema. He wastes not a second of your time with Goodfellas.
Ray Liotta is incredible as Henry Hill and serves as a perfect anchor for all the madness around him. The absolute peak of his performance is that legendary, chaotic helicopter sequence. It is just pure genius. Liotta plays that frantic, sweaty panic so well that your own heart starts racing just watching him. Absolute career defining performance, insane oscar snub.
One of my favourite parts of this film is, one of cinemas greatest duos, De Niro and Pesci. The chemistry they have is unmatched. Both provide phenomenal performances as Jimmy and Tommy. And that “Funny how?” scene is absolutely legendary.
This film defines the mafia genre. It is fast, intense and has so much substance. Classic Scorsese film.
