definitely the best war film ever. it does a really good job at showing the depersonalisation the military inflicts on people to separate war from real violence as well as the propaganda the military teaches you. Like in the bootcamp when joker is the only one who isn’t susceptible to religious and anti communist propaganda, however he still buys into the here to kill narrative. The soldiers are stripped of personality even before they go to war, there heads are shaved and they’re given nicknames. Joker tries to not be susceptible to that but in the end he accepts his status as canon fodder after what happens at the end (no spoilers promise) and that the dehumanisation and depersonalisation is better than the emotional toll war has if you take it in as its whole form, especially since in the final scene it cuts Jokers Peace badge out of frame. Theres also a clear sexualisation and limitation of femininity, naming the rifles after woman, the repeated mary rottencrotch reference and the Vietnamese prostitutes. Anyway, maybe im biased as a pacifist but i think everyone should have to watch this.
