Garden State
Had to re-watch this in honor of putting it in my top 4.
The impact Garden State has had on me since my first time watching it a couple years ago is INSANE! I don't feel like there are enough movies that focus on this blank numbness depression and medication can have on your life. The way you can let things pass by, the feeling of knowing you should care more, but you literally can't. Obviously this feeling of numbness isn't completely unknown in the film industry but Garden state is definitely my favorite example.
Watching other people feel the emotions YOU should be feeling. The way Andrew and Sam's personality's mash. Andrew's way of seeing the world and Sam's way of viewing the world are so different and them being able to connect creates this sense of understanding that I personally love. I hear many people say this film is "boring", or uses a "manic pixie dream girl troupe". I don't personally agree. Every-time Ive watched this movie ive genuinely fell in love with these characters. I don't know if this is a result of my personal connection with the themes in this movie, I also feel like characters should be able to show uniqueness or weird behaviors without immediately getting labeled in the same category. Watch this movie! I love this movie!
