The score goes brilliantly with the moody Chicago setting. James Caan gives an amazing performance, all intensity without ever overdoing it. Slightly tops his performance from Misery.
Mad that this was Mann’s debut. Feels like a director already at his peak. Top 5 debut easy. He found his lane straight away with these gritty, stylish crime thrillers. Thief walked so Heat could run.
