American Psycho
magnificent depiction of fragile masculinity, narcissism, and control. he wanted to "fit in" but in doing so, he's being confused with people "like him". designer suits, business cards, exclusive restaurants, its all in there.
some people might ask if he actually did it. i really think that he did not. it was all in his head. his fantasy of being seen, being controlling, being above all else. he had to do a thousand crunches and an overwhelming step-by-step skin care routine just so he won't feel the lack in his own skin; that he is cleaner, more put together, and more posh. the amount of obsession towards music and its artist, it was something that interest him because it was the only thing he can be critical about and be vocal about it. the obsession to sharing it with his victims and how his victims didn't care because just like him, they're all shallow.
patrick bateman wanted to be different, but he forgets that he is just like everything.
