“The powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?” - Mr. Keating - Walt Whitman

The “we’re Americans” line really gave away that this was a higher/lower class struggle allegory for me. Well, that, and the lower class literally being underground. The lower clsss eating rabbits also is lowkey giving Great Depression “Hoover Hogs”. Being murdered to Good Vibrations would be a really conflicting experience, I think. I love “Les Fleurs”. Elite ending song choice.

And if I said that this was a comfort movie…

Oh. My. Gosh. I love love loved this movie. Spider-Man tackles burnout and grief and loneliness?? "Just because we've lost someone... it doesn't mean we have to do this alone. I mean... we can't. Believe me, I've been trying. It doesn't work." SHUT UP. Shut. Up. I cried like a baby. Also I love Florence Pugh so much. I wish she was in every movie ever. It’s a bit of an unhealthy obsession at this point.

I don’t really know how to review this movie because it’s so disturbing, but I’m sure it was supposed to be. It’s not really fun and there’s no main character whose survival I’m supposed to root for. I guess maybe the point is that it’s classist to assume that psychopaths can only come in the form of lower class individuals rather than well-groomed rich businessmen. I hate you, Patrick Bateman, and no, I don’t care that you’re attractive and have good music taste and the skincare routine of Kim Kardashian. This movie is so scary because wdym you can be both psychotic and hygienic??? Like you have the ability to care about ONE thing and you choose appearance instead of human decency?? There are so so so many things wrong with this guy, obviously, but you’re telling me you work out to Texas Chainsaw Massacre?? ALSO there’s something about the cadence of his voice that makes me so angry. (Ok, I’m done complaining now.) This review makes me sound like I hate the movie. I don’t. I can appreciate its quality and storytelling while also acknowledging that it’s not an “enjoyable” movie for me, if that makes sense. The acting is great. The plot is pretty cool. It’s kinda chic and stylish at points? The bottom line is…I don’t know what the heck I just watched and I don’t know how I feel about it either. Maybe it’s time to delete this app.
