One of the most unique vampire movies I’ve seen. The concept of a priest turning into a vampire through a blood transfusion was awesome and gave the movie such an interesting angle. He went out trying to help people but instead became something inhuman, and his guilt and fear of hurting others made the film much more tragic. I liked how he tried to restrain himself by only drinking blood from transfusion bags or from people who already wanted to die.
The movie slowly becomes darker once he meets Tae-ju, a woman trapped and oppressed in her home, who manipulates him into murdering an innocent person. Later, when he turns her into a vampire to save her life, she becomes completely unhinged and starts killing people freely for blood, while the priest keeps sinking deeper into guilt.
The ending was beautiful and tragic.
Priest: “I wanted to be with you forever and ever. Together again in Hell then.”
Tae-ju: “When you’re dead, you’re dead. It’s been fun, Father.”
Such an awesome film by Park Chan-wook.
