Candyman
Going into this, I did not expect it to be this great of a story. This is one of those old slashers that actually takes itself seriously and therefore creates some scary moments and a compelling story that builds up lots of tension throughout the whole movie.
The pacing was honestly great; it never once got even close to being boring. The atmosphere that the movie builds is great, especially around the housing projects, you can just feel something is going on in every scene around there.
The characters are also great, and they were played perfectly. Nobody could have made the character of Candyman work just as well as Tony Todd. His screen presence is just amazing, and his haunting voice on top of that is incredible. Virginia Madsen also did a great job playing Helen. She was so intense, and you really just had to feel bad for her, Candyman completely outplayed her and took everything from her.
This film really holds up among all the other classics of the horror genre, and I actually think it’s one of the rare cases where a horror classic is good and not just iconic.
