Demolition
Out of fomo this will be my first ever English review 😭
Demolition reallyyy surprised me. I loved it, but I think it made me feel more thoughtful rather than emotional.
If you really look into it you realize how he has his own unique way of coping with grief, and how it slowly escalates from denial all the way to acceptance. Even though I didn’t necessarily connect with him or relate to him, I found it really astonishing how well the movie shows that grief isn’t always sadness, sometimes it’s just numbness (which really steps away from the cliche way movies usually represent grief).
What I liked the most is how you see him go through this whole process just to rediscover himself and eventually accept what happened. I found it almost comforting and even satisfying to watch such growth in Davis as a character.
The moment that really stuck with me was when he says, “there was love between me and Julia, I just didn’t take care of it.” That’s when it clicked for me that she was never really the point of the movie, but his mental state all along, and how much he had to go through to understand what he truly lost.
I also love how raw the movie feels in the way it portrays grief, going from indifference to showing how losing someone can completely change your life.
Overall, this movie felt like an emotional train wreck, but in a very real and human way. It’s something I’d definitely watch again!
