The Twilight Samurai
What’s the purpose of a film?
• It should reflect the societal values, culture, norms, struggles.
• It should add depth to characters and narrate stories in a way which sway you from your reality and add a deeper sense of meaning.
• It should have conflicts within characters and situational conflicts for the viewer to retrospect and think.
• Things may or may not turn out the way characters and the audience intend and make the audience learn to make peace with it.
• Or…. it can do something entirely out of the box without following any rules whilst keeping you on the brink, but it must make you question and think.
The twilight samurai is a film that succeeds in bringing the audience extremely interested in the personal and societal struggles & needs of characters (to the points of extremities in the lens of society but completely different from the first person perspective) with a calm and serene atmosphere. Everything lies right in front of the audience to grasp and live with the Twilight Samurai, a kind of rare film that makes you stay even after the credits roll with a sense of fulfilment. Great art tends to do that, it leaves you fulfilled.
