Crooklyn
Another banger by spike lee. What pulls me in the most is how lived in this story feels. You can feel the textures of reality through every corner and how Lee incorporated childhood memories into the movie. The stylistic editing choices that were made when Troy was sent to temporarily stay in the south to depict the distortion of being faced with an unknown environment as a kid is truly genius. Growing up as a Latino kid in the city I saw myself in the film.. and in these trivial moments that may not mean much to the average viewer. The journey that Troy goes on is a punch to the gut but at the same time full of heart and strength. This is definitely my fave spike movie and I’m glad to admit it made me sob like a baby while also soothing me at the same time. Also Delroy Lindo and Alfre Woodard fucking amazing performances.
