Queer
"I’m not queer, I’m disembodied".
Luca did it once again, he made a movie so great and captivating, that it’s going to take me years to process it. It's film that centers and focuses on loneliness, self hate and longing desperation, which was delivered in such a beautiful manner.
Daniel craigs performance was commendable, absolutely nailing his role. The films major theme revolves around lee trying to destroy himself or a part of himself, which is also represented perfectly in the later part of the movie with the imagery of the snake eating its own tail.
Drew starkeys performance was definitely my favorite! I love him so much and was so excited to see him act on this ever since the film was announced around a year and a half ago. His character, Eugene is a very ice cold character, very reserved and also very complex, because you get a sense that he is confused in his own sexuality at times, but is also completely aware of his control over Lee. I also want to add the perfect intro scene with “Come as you are” by nirvana playing?? oh my god I got full body chills.
All the acts in the film were well done, but the last act did lose me a little bit and I was confused at times with where the story was going, but the body horror is so done so well. The chemistry between starkey and craig was on another planet, all the scenes were so perfect and so much tension was expressed. They work SO well together and they are so talented.
Since the film is adapting a book, I will in fact add that people who aren’t familiar with the story beforehand, might get lost at times. But they still did a great job at conveying the message of self hate and destruction various times throughout the movie. It was great having previous knowledge on the movie and the symbolism at one of the last scenes of the movie when lee shoots the glass over Eugene’s head. I’m Mind blown at how well the script was written.
Jonathan Anderson amazed me with the costume design and I fell In love with every outfit. It captured such a classic feel of a Luca movie. He deserves so much applause for his work and I’ve always been such a fan of his work. The setting was so done so well! As an aspiring set designer I was in love with how well the sets were built and how accurate they were to the time in which it was set. Omar Apollo being one of my favorite music artists did such a great acting debut role and I am so proud of him <3
After have waited so long for this movie to be released I must say that I am not disappointed and this exceeded my expectations!! I’m surprised at how I cried multiple times even if there was so dialogue. Luca will forever have my heart with his movies and i cant wait to watch the tiktok edits of drew starkey in the movie!
Beautiful film.
