“The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space.”
I may not be very versed in the sci-fi genre but I imagine this is very much the epitome of this kind of sci-fi film. Shot beautifully, great performances from everyone, especially Jodie Foster as the lead where she brings the same energy she did with Clarice where a young upstart is often overlooked and undermined by the men (except for a few) in her field only in this movie Eleanor's Crawford essentially betrays her. The film has alot it wants to say but it never truly gets muddled from faith vs science and existentialism as a whole it never feels like it preaching per say more so as stating the facts or lack there of in some cases. The movie also treats believing in aliens the same as people believing in their respective religion which is an interesting concept to think about. All in all a thought provoking film that raises many questions that I can sit with.
