Moonlight
In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue
There is no exaggeration in saying one of the most beautiful movies in the past 20+ years absolutely beautiful cinematography. A coming of age film exploring masculinity and identity through the eyes of Chiron at three different stages in life. The young confused eyes of Little to the timid unsure stare of Chiron and finally the curtain facade gaze of Black. This film says so much with so little words from the expression of Juan when asked what a certain slur means and to the melancholy eyes of Chiron in the mirror in the bathroom and finally a small embrace of two friends/lovers after years of separation all reflect the themes of finding one’s self in a world not built for you. The subtle nuances and relationships between every character also adds so much the drug dealer helping raise a son from a home that he is actively breaking and Black’s facade breaking and turning back to Chiron at the beach after hearing Kevin’s voice again is masterful acting and directing. Just an absolutely perfect film
