Planet Earth
Where do you even begin with this review? The scale of this project to be brought on film to gaze upon our eyes is nothing short of spectacular. All of the shots taken are so majestic and mesmerizing and there's some that simply begs the question as to how on earth did you capture this beauty in the most immersive way. The relation that all the living creatures have with every other family is crazy.
You are introduced to so many species that you are unaware and think to yourself that it can only be real in fantasy world.
My biggest question is how did the production team managed to even access some of the parts of nature that are so remote or even dangerous and come out alive presumably unscathed? Like how are you centimeters away from a bear, or just swimming along with a polar bear in the arctic? At some moment's I wanted the crew to step in help the suffering animals or the one's that were going to be hunted down. Don't even start on penguins, how are they still alive to this day is a question on it's own. The conditions they are having to live in is dreadful but yet they make it through the toughest challenges.
You would think that a polar bear would have a good chance to take on a walrus in a situation of life or death, but you would be wrong. The night life is so scary with the way they showed how a group of lions jumped a lone elephant left for dead. A group of chimpanzees really just went all out once they saw that they were being filmed. The group voluntarily killed the other group of chimpanzees mainly just for food and to assert dominance but there's no real answer as to why they are cannibals. I was so surprised to see how 2 different animal spieces were making an alliances to hunt down the prey. Mixed feelings with how little they showed the deep ocean, it wasn't a lot but I'm kinda scared to see something that's gonna be very hard to digest. It pains me to see that some of these animals are stranded to a specific location on earth that they can only find the source of food and be isolated for the rest of their existence. Ultimately it's a one of a kind display of life through hardship, fear, starvation and survival.
It's mind-boggling to have this insight to the wildlife that you were so unfamiliar with in reality, it's just in the back of your mind thinking that you know how they live but seeing it first hand left me in a state of anxiety and empathy. How can we be so numb to the wilderness that we are destroying? In the near future there won't be a possibility to make such a gorgeous piece of art. To the people who are apart of this making it happen deserves so much, to have this documented is surreal to witness and gain knowledge on.
