Class Enemy
Thomas Mann this, Thomas Mann that. What if you just stopped and asked your students about their feelings? It’s hard to say how I would act instead of Robert, but I can’t support his methods. He failed to show empathy, but I think he is also holding himself accountable and feeling some guilt. I read his reaction to Sabina’s melody like that. Even though that’s how the students tried to guilt trap him, I still think falling into it actually reveals him emotionally.
The ending was not bad. I liked that he finally decided to talk with them directly about what was going on in a more grounded way, though sadly he didn’t last long and immediately started his metaphorical speech again. Overall, I’m not a huge fan of Robert but I liked the students, which is rare . My favorite part is Zdenka reading her letter to Sabina. I think it reflects my own feelings pretty well.
p.s. and this two hour Thomas Mann ad didn’t work. I’m not going to read him.
