Pickpocket
How is Bresson able to make his films so engaging? They are striped down. Devoid of any discernible directorial style, no fancy camera angles, no distracting subplots. Just direct storytelling. His movies are the white rice of cinema, albeit the best white rice. He has perfected the art of filmmaking in its base form. If someone had never seen a movie before, and wanted to know what it was, I would show them Bresson.
