Clue
One of my old favorites as a child, I watched Clue roughly a dozen times growing up despite having never played the game that it was based on. Lots of superb comedy acting here, I didn’t know just how stacked this cast was! Most of it still holds up, especially the bits that made me laugh the hardest as a kid (mainly Tim Curry [who was masterful here] fainting from a falling candlestick and the singing telegram girl getting shot with expert comedic timing). The humor was a lot raunchier than I remember, but it adds a great deal of extra fun spotting all the jokes that I missed before. It’s so dense with said jokes that it’s frankly impressive — not all of them land, but they come at you so rapid-fire that the compounding effect makes them much funnier, in the chaos of the whole affair. It’s mostly nostalgia speaking here, but there’s an undeniable coziness present in this film, even in the more tense moments; a tongue-in-cheek nature that reassures the viewer that it’s all lighthearted slapstick in the end. Speaking of, all three endings are great, and the final line gets me every time. Wonderful film, quite possibly the best board game movie ever made. :)
