Vinland Saga
I actually finished an anime!
So happy I liked this! I’ve tried for ages to become an Anime fiend - I love the art style. The feature length films often are amazing, some of my favorite movies are anime.. But the shows, with a few exceptions, never really worked for me.. The problem is the pacing these shows have, and the creepy sexual tension that seem endemic to the them can, at times, make me uncomfortable.
The name Thorfinn is so disgustingly slaughtered in this show 😂
The animation is great of course and the voice acting is.. I presume its good? Obviously I don’t speak Japanese. They’re not good at Nordic names that’s for sure! But the characters are filled with life and so distinctive. The development of Thorfinn is so captivating and so immersive - the fight sequences are out of control! I liked pretty much every character.
**StilI..
Feel like every anime show got the same approach, I’m not a major anime connoisseur, but every show I’ve watched have about the same style and story threads - whatever the subject matter is. I typically hate the intros to these shows as well - they mesh so badly with what is portrayed, and the songs are so annoying - except for Neon Genesis Evangelion.. that intro song is actual fire. —-But don’t get me wrong! There’s many anime’s I adore! But I’ve managed to finish 9 shows in my life.. and I’ve tried to watch countless**.. so if you got any suggestions.. my ears are open!
Overall,
Does the Anime take its freedoms? Definitely! Is it a faithful adaption of Snorre Sturlasons ‘Heimskringla’? Of course not! But it’s fun seeing such a foreign look on stories that I’ve been told since I was a child and I gotta say they use the era as a backdrop for an amazing character study and arc.

Also, I didn’t start watching this today.. I’ve been watching this since it came out on Netflix.
