Everyone, indulge in this masterpiece, I mean Ive just consumed the most mind shattering and impressive cinematography ever. A fragmenting dispute of violence across dazzling vast landscape of Japan. The genius colour choices and arrangement from the infamous Akira Kurosawa. The colours like something from Terrance Mallick.
Aside from the cinematography the story tells greed, insanity and corruption. Money hungry, traitorous leaders will go to far extents for glory. Disputes and risky gambles ultimately leads to demise, behind the brutality Kurosawa can tell a complex story on greediness and our power seeking nature as humans.
Lets talk about how ahead of it’s time this movie was, so many influential and bold effects were used. Like the burning castle, being a shot that can only be taken once but turned out to be one of the greatest shots of all time, I can talk about the invasion of the castle alone; the smoke effects plays the ominous atmosphere perfectly. The dark and dull hues shows the downfall of the king, the opening shot being vibrant and flashy colours of gold and other grand colours showing the power and presence he once had, it contradicts itself and its masterful. Talking about the ending shot here, another showing of the genius colours, won’t spoil but the depressing colours and the use of the sunset just made the scene immaculate and will leave it in your head for days. This movie is a test of loyalty and trust for us all. Whilst also being a fascinating movie it also has phycological properties and poetical elements.
Thank you Akira Kurosawa for this masterpiece.
"What kind of world do we live in? One barren of loyalty and feeling."
