Yi Yi
a movie about memory and having these moments not knowing theyre special until you can no longer have them. its just an ordinary movie about life, the cutest little boy trying to understand the world, a daughter falling in love for the first time, and the dad navigating a failing business and interesting marriage.
the wedding, then stroke, then funeral show how life can just shift so quickly. the three events, in my eyes, also show the circle of life. the wedding shows the birth of new relationships, a marriage, and future possibilities. the stroke symbolizes the interruption that forces self reflection in the middle of the life. the self reflection then carries on to the funeral, showing death, memory and the wisdom gained from experience. its crazy how this is just someone's ordinary life.
theres nothing special that this movie does, no plot twist, no expert film bro words (i think idk), its just the simplicity and complexity of life that really shines through in this movie. all the characters feel real and emotional, and thats what makes this movie so brilliant.
