TÁR
I kept seeing this movie in my four favorites and not being able to recount anything apart from the frontal cortex catharsis I felt after finishing it. Then someone asked me if I just liked watching conductors in movies and I figured that couldn’t be true cuz I didn’t particularly like Maestro. So as a jersey fuck you, I watched it again intending on hating it just so I could be like “I don’t like nun of that sissy do re mi shit throw on some goodfellas”
Turns out I do like movies abt conductors and this is the conductoriest of them all. It tickles that adolescent part of my brain that saw cumberbatch’s sherlock and was like “woah he’s such a capable obstinate asshole”. The movie is unrelenting and so is Lydia Tàr. all of the music is diegetic and yet none of it is and that sense of dichotomy pervades the entire movie. If all that any one person experiences is their own, what is objectivity? Empathy? It paints the hubris, the egocentricity, the exploitation, and the inhumanity of being successfully unrelenting in such a muddled light, u kinda wish to be put thru the crucible so u can attempt to cling to ur humanity thru it all.
