Christopher Nolan’s inability to allow any actor to speak in their natural accent will forever be funny I’m sorry

What does any of this have to do with Vietnam **man**? 😔 In my first rewatch I realized this movie really does have everything to do with Vietnam. From the very first scene you’re set into an atmosphere of a scarred American society about to reenter the fray of war in Kuwait. Of course the movie is hilarious and all out entertaining from start to finish but throughout Walter keeps reflecting on the apathy of the American government and its people upon his return home and how it has fundamentally damaged his mental state and sense of self. I find every Coen Brothers movie to be such a thoughtful interpretation of what it means to be American and this might be the masterpiece that truly illustrates the cinematically surreal, depressing and irreverent mess that has been the American identity ever since Vietnam. But maybe I’ve overanalyzed and I’m like a child walking into a movie theatre. **Shut the fuck up Donny. **
