*“What happened? One minute everything’s fine, the next…. what went wrong?” “Nothing went wrong, people change.” “People change?” “Yeah, people change.” “Can they change back?” “I don’t know, I think it’s harder.” * **I will never understand** people who not only *cling* tightly onto the past, but try to cage other people in it as well. **People who cry out loud** and *run* their mouths, filling comment sections with **hatred** for *anyone* who dresses *differently* or lives outside the narrow space, the so called ‘norm’ they have brought upon themselves and others. **It’s *so* exhausting** to see how quickly individuality gets targeted. **Seeing men support each other more than the woman** who clearly has been *hurt* by them, people who stay *silent*, not because they don’t see what’s wrong but because they’re *surrounded* by single minded idiots who do not understand the difference between *self-expression* and *disrespect*. **Watching people who are religious** *(and I mostly see this from white, superiority-driven, privileged Christians)* using their religious texts as an **excuse to feel appalled by any minor change**, while *constantly* insulting just about anyone in comment sections. **I will *never* understand** the people in my class who made fun of me, or one of my best friends just for having to leave class to go to therapy. They called her an ‘attention seeking cunt’ and reduced *everything* she was working hard on to a *joke*. Just like the time one of them made fun of a guy for wearing a winter jacket from a cheap brand, **as if the price tag on your clothes somehow defines your worth as a person. ** I already talked about empathy before.** I genuinely believe that social media has made us all lose a big piece of our anterior insular cortex.** A few months back, there was this trend on TikTok where people asked others to film them dancing, only to turn the camera around and make fun of them, **from this point on I knew we were *lost*.** **And it makes me wonder, really wonder,** how anyone ever is supposed to *truly* grow in a world like this. How do you truly evolve when judgement is louder than any kind of friendship or understanding? I know I’m not separated from all of this, but I’m AWARE of it and sometimes that awareness feels like a burden. Having a some sort of emotional understanding sounds like a good thing, until it’s not. **What I keep coming back to is… **how do people stay in a friend group where they do not feel seen, where they go along with things they don’t even believe in? I used to do that too. But at some point, I realised that I would rather be alone than surrounded by people who don’t care who I really am. But even being without friends for a while felt more honest than pretending to belong somewhere I didn’t. I hope you’re all doing okay. Life is a bitch sometimes, but speaking as someone who lowkeuinely went through hell and back last year, I can say it does get easier to live with whatever burden you’re carrying right now. I’m sorry that my reviews are a bit jumbled up and not *that* great at the moment </3 but sometimes it feels a bit odd to just write two simple words under one instead of a whole paragraph. So sorry for not keeping that up either!! Sending big, big hugs to anyone who needs one. *“Do you love your father?” * 𖦹 . ⊹ 🌻 🎪 .ᐟ *“Everyone loves my father. He’s a very likeable guy” “Do **you** love him?”* ***Big Fish**** isn’t really about fantasy*, at least not in the way it first appears to be. Beneath this *vast*, **whimsical world** the film shows *(fantasy or not)*, lies something *far more ***important** and difficult: the **struggle to truly see the world through someone else’s eyes**. And this film captures that tension *better* than *anything*. Maybe that’s why the film connected so deeply with me. **We live in a world that never pauses. ***Everything* moves forward *relentlessly* and everyone around us seems to grow more ***detached*** from another. Sometimes I even feel like we’re *regressing*, watching people speak so *loudly* while knowing so **little**. I’m cranky, I’m frustrated, I’m exhausted by the constant noise, by the feeling that no one is really paying attention anymore. Lately, it’s been hard not to lose hope when I see what is happening in my country. **Understanding the inner life of someone you’ve known your whole life**, *or even half of it*, is *far* more complicated than understanding your *own*. Maybe we don’t even *try* hard enough, because it’s easier to reduce people to what they show us on the *surface*. **The tip of the iceberg so to speak.** *𓂃 . ❄️ “The thing about icebergs is you only see 10%, the other 90% is below the water where you can’t see it and that’s… what it is with you, dad I’m only seeing this little bit that sticks above the water. Dad, I have no idea who you are, you never told me a single fact.”* You *don’t* have to know **everything** about someone to feel *for* or *with* them. That’s what this movie *understands* so *well*. We spend so much time trying to separate truth from fiction, when sometimes the story itself is the truth, just told differently. We will *never* understand a person completely. Maybe that’s the point. Maybe love isn’t about fully knowing someone, but about choosing to believe them, to accept them, even when they remain unknowable. We do not *need* every fact or *truth* to ***love*** someone *properly*. Sometimes, understanding doesn’t comes from accuracy, but from *acceptance*, from **choosing** to see meaning in the stories people tell about themselves. **You can collect facts about a person**, recall their *habits*, their *history* and their *words*. But that doesn’t mean you’ve understood them. Real understanding is something deeper, less precise. It lives in **empathy**, in *imagination*, in the **willingness** to meet someone where *they* are, even if that place is built on stories you can’t truly grasp. ***Big Fish*** doesn’t demand to fully *decode* and *understand *another person. Instead, it asks something simpler and, maybe, more honest: **to feel for them anyway.** This made me think of my grandparents. They would’ve had their anniversary this week. I miss them. </3 [.ᐟ🍀 ೀ watching my moots’ Top 4 𓂃 .](https://boxd.it/OAbCI) [୨𝑒 🦷 ⸝⸝ Tim Burton Ranked](https://boxd.it/A1Fmk)
