I was very nervous that this film would repeat the same mistakes I usually find in Safdies movies. They always make the most thrilling movie you've ever seen, with plot twists every second, but somehow they fail to make me care about the characters. Not gonna lie, I hated the first half of the movie because I thought that instead of making a boring character, they had made the most arrogant and unbearable character in all of cinema. Which is actually true, they did create the most insufferable character in cinema, but they managed to "redeem" him and turn him into someone human. Nad that, to me, is the message of the movie. It's about when confidence turns into pride, and how dangerous that can be, not only for yourself, but especially for others. Two and a half hours that definitely did not feel like it. (Btw I know this movie was directed only by Josh Safdie and not by both brothers.)
