' So I am not accusing anyone. But let me ask you the question, aren't we all guilty? You will, of course, answer that we are innocent. But then, what do we call this poor child? The victim of the innocent? The martyr of the faultless? The slaughtered of the sinless? I'd rather call her innocent' This 7 hour long masterpiece explores the ways that the people have been used and abused by the state towards the end of communism. This movie is exhibit A for Bela Tarrs work with us seeing his slow and moving techniques at their best and the interesting use of time and splitting the film into sections helps to create incredible depth and feeling for the victims allowing him to create a deep and personal feeling film and allowing you to connect to each characters through the use of masterful directing. He also uses the effects of communism on a rural farming village as well as the return of a Family from the dead to display how this political issue has effected the people of Hungary near the end of the communist state. this movie is a guaranteed 5 star movie and despite it's length it would hold my attention for another 5 hours.
