Das Boot

I bought the miniseries on DVD many years ago, god over 20 years ago now I think, and never got around to watching it. Always intended to but you know how it goes. Well finally decided to watch it all today, and my DVD remains unwatched as I just watched the modern 1080 release instead. C'est la guerre. Anyway I'm glad I finally decided to watch it, also glad I did it in one go as it's really good. I was worried beforehand that all the extra shit would ruin the pacing and make it drag but it really doesn't, all that extra shit just fits in nicely and you get to know more of the crew and enjoy that sweaty submarine atmosphere for longer. Didn't feel bored at all watching this long ass film. And it does work like a long-ass film rather than a tv show, so I really think it's better to watch it in one go. One negative is the DNR on this 1080 version. It's pretty strong at times and makes things look a bit fucked up. Really wish they didn't do this bollocks, just leave the grain in or if you must don't go overboard with it.
