Midsommar
Tack så mycket Ari Aster for blessing us with this insane 2.5 hour hallucinogenic trip of a movie.
This was easily my most anticipated movie of the year and damn did it deliver. The editing and cinematography are flawless, and perfectly capture the tone and progression of Dani’s journey. I especially loved the quick cut scene transitioning from Christian’s apartment to the airplane, and the shift from the stark darkness of early scenes with the over-exposed, painfully bright tones of Waco Sweden. Florence Pugh is also absolutely incredible (her facial expression in the final shot was a truly perfect moment).
I’m not sure what this says about me as a person... but I don’t think I have ever felt this satisfied with a movie’s ending before. Truly. You reap what you sow (or in this case, sew) y’all. Bad boyfriends and culturally insensitive cretins of planet Earth, you are officially on notice. Scandinavian-Pagan comeuppance is no joke.
