Broooo I watched first 40 minutes of this movie for 6 months probably 😭😭 At first it felt like the movie was tryna gate keep itself from me😤😤😤, and withhold any intimacy on purpose. So I stayed. Not only for cinema that knew its a cinema but also cuz of music. Every time I was getting bored and every time I resisted these snob “sublime” images and dialogues, the music bypassed though my defense. Idk how Sorrentino did it🧐🧐 so anyways at first I was convinced this is the type of films people defend more than they actually feel cuz it felt more like an essay. Buuut when the daughter came back to this hotel heartbroken and lost it suddenly felt so real and the film started breathing finally 🥳🥳 it became alive and personal and human. The landscapes started reminding me of Gursky. The framing and scales, how small humans look compared to what they build, the skyscrapers careers awards civilizations and how none of it stands a chance against earth itself. And that thought stayed with me like how we are nothing and everything at the same time and cuz nothing really matters everything actually does🤓☝️☝️ Somehow in the second half I started enjoying the dialogues. Mby it’s cause more women finally started talking 🤠🤠 and this kinda made me notice all these parallels - old/young, famous/ordinary, talking/staying silent, real/imagined. The film unfolded slowly and felt banal and whimsical at the same time😲 the bubbles scene, these edits of greek like bath scenes, nature turned orchestra, sex in the woods😏 it’s almost ridiculous but also…. so sincere🤨🤨 The *Youth* is about so many things and I think that’s why it works. It doesn’t necessarily give u a clear thought, but it shows u fullness in images and sounds and ideas and feelings. It feels like the type of film u gonna keep carrying with u but mby that’s the point too
