Look Back
i just finished wiping all the snot and tears from my face. sasuga my goat fujimoto. i’m trying to sort out all my thoughts while everything is fresh on my mind. between the manga and the film, there’s a different but definite emotion laced within each frame that elevates this adaptation to a completely new experience yet both are dogmatic symptoms of why the process of making art is art itself. this is why i think look back rings true to not just artists, but anyone who values the work they do. it breaks down the fundamental principles of what it means to create something from nothing to an eye level; entirely sympathetic, unpretentious, extraordinarily mundane: it is never not painful. it is never straightforward. it is never instant. and it is never possible without you. what we make as humans is completely unique to anything ever in the universe in all its raw, earnest, imperfect form, which is why i don’t think AI will ever be able to replicate it.
