So predictable and cheesy it felt like a parody… except it wasn’t. Still campy trash fun though.

I watched Marty Supreme purely because of the Best Picture nomination, and honestly… I don’t get the hype (I find myself saying that a lot though) Visually, the film is beautiful. The color palette is striking, like the lighting, and the editing has a sleek, deliberate rhythm. From a technical standpoint, there’s a lot to admire. But for me, style couldn’t compensate for substance. The story felt like a chain of subplots rather than a cohesive narrative. Threads were introduced, developed, and then seemingly abandoned without meaningful resolution. Instead of building momentum, the film drifted. It became less engaging as it went on, ultimately feeling both long and oddly empty. The major barrier to my investment was Marty himself. Watching a narcissistic grifter dominate the screen made it difficult to connect with the character. The film asks the audience to care about his journey, yet gives little reason to actually root for him?? By the end, I wasn’t tense, intrigued, or moved… I was just waiting for it to be over (it being like 10pm while pregnant probably didn’t help). Also.. what was the point of Gwyneth Paltrow’s character?? Her presence added runtime but not impact. The film easily could have shed thirty minutes without losing anything essential… which is saying something for a movie that already feels overextended. As for Timmy’s Best Actor nomination…. While the dialogue distinguishes Marty from Chalamet himself, the performance felt familiar. The mannerisms, cadence, and emotional beats didn’t feel ✨transformative✨. Just Timmy playing Timmy. And when Marty breaks down at the end, the moment landed flat for me. Not because it wasn’t acted competently, but because the character hadn’t earned empathy. I was just rolling my eyes like, “give me a fckn break dude.” Overall, Marty Supreme is visually polished but narratively dull. For all its aesthetic beauty, I found it boring, meandering, and emotionally distant. Booooorrrrrring.
