mother!
wow. like… wow. i genuinely have no words, but also i do, because what the hell did i just watch. for a big part of the movie i kept wondering where the horror actually was, especially when things still felt loving and normal between them. there’s even this really beautiful moment when they’re kissing and everything feels warm and perfect and i remember thinking this is way too good to last. it felt inevitable that something awful was coming and i was basically waiting to see when the movie would flip but I was still shocked to see them pull an Epstein.
secondly this is kind of a review about me, i know that sounds narcissistic but i felt that. i understood jennifer lawrence’s character way too much. she has this constant facial expression where it’s like question and exclamation marks at the same time, like she’s confused and hurt and just watching everything fall apart in front of her. you can literally see on her face that she feels unappreciated and not enough. and when she says “i was never enough for you… you never loved me, you loved that i loved you” that hit me. it was extremely sad but i understood it. what hurt her the most wasn’t even the chaos, it was that feeling of not being enough. and also the privacy thing. i’m the same. there’s something really really nice about being alone with your significant other, just you two, and the way people keep invading their space in the movie made me feel overwhelmed for her. yeah sometimes she over exaggerates, but honestly most of the time, like 90 percent of it, it’s obviously too much. the movie had me confused, frustrated, and weirdly thrilled at the same time. i remember at one point i was so agitated by what was happening that i literally stood up for no reason.
anyway. insane experience. genuinely one of the best movies i’ve ever watched. probably top 20 of all time for me, at least lol
PS: this gave me the same agitated vibes Uncut Gems gave me. honestly very similar energy.
