Hacksaw Ridge
Great movie all about standing up for what you believe in and giving second chances. So inspiring considering it’s a true story.
The respect he earns throughout the movie is so cool to see. The scene when they respect him after his heroics at hacksaw and let him pray for them was a turning point in itself where he became a valuable member to them instead of a burden.
Andrew Garfield, as usual, nails this role. Casting overall was great. Some characters did felt a bit fake just for the sake of the movie.
The end was great especially in the credits where they interview actual people in the story. The end I felt like was a little ambiguous though. It’s hinted that he dies in a way, but then revealed that he very much lived for like 60 more years after that.
War is really destructive not just physically but also mentally and I think that was conveyed so well in the film. Desmond’s dad though abusive and cold still deeply cares about his sons and wife. However the war clearly changed him and it’s sad seeing a man who was so happy before the war change into a monster. It just captures the essence of that so well, as we see vulnerable moments where you can see h scares but he doesn’t know how to convey that anymore.
Recommend to watch if you’re into war movies and inspiring stuff, it’s a great watch
