Prisoners

Incredible. I was on my toes throughout the entirety of the runtime. Did not expect it to be such a thrill. Really well crafted story and great twists. This movie had almost everything done right. One thing it really nailed was the casting.  Jake Gyllenhaal put on a masterclass in this film. Top-tier acting, honestly incredible. In my opinion Hugh Jackman didn’t really nail his role this time. It’s so amazing how well Paul Dano can play a creep. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is film that casting directors for The Batman saw before deciding on him for the riddler. He also sings a song mentioning Batman, Robin, and Joker which I thought was a great coincidence.  Denis Villeneuve absolutely cooked here. Some shots were so epic and I think that’s kind of his style. We’ve seen it in his Dune projects where epic camera shots are all throughout the film. This film excelled in capturing the eerie atmosphere of the whole situation in that way.  I dislike how some events played out though. We don’t really get how the girl escaped, and it’s seems pretty unlikely they did when we find out what they went through. I wish we got more time in the maze like a chase scene through it or something.  I do like the ending though which I feel is a big point of criticism towards this movie. Honestly keeping it mysterious just saves us of a very sad and predictable ending.  Worth watching FOR SURE  4.5/5
