Weapons
This was my first horror movie in a cinema and that’s 100% how it should be. Dark room, big screen, everything felt way more intense. Much more immersive than a TV. Horror’s different with Dolby audio.
I totally get why Jordan Peele crashed out when he lost the bidding war for this premise. It’s such a cool idea, weirdly grounded, creepy, and kind of hard to mess up.
What really got me was the perspective switching. You’re not just watching, you’re in it, bouncing between guilt, sadness, fear, like feeling what each character is feeling. That shifting empathy really worked.
Loved the climax, full throttle. Tension’s high, you’re tracking multiple people at once, and the fear just keeps compounding. You feel the chase. Like genuinely feel it in your chest.
But then that comical scene right after was a weird choice. Totally broke the vibe. I get trying to give the audience a breather, but not right there. It felt off, too goofy after such a tight, anxiety driven sequence.
I also disliked the ending a little bit. It was a little too sudden. I needed more closure, or at least something about what happens after. Like a little follow up on the kids or something, idk like 5 more minutes of screen time.
There was also a little love triangle thingy which went nowhere. I don’t know what the point of that was, like literally it’s not relevant at all.
Julia Garner played her part perfectly though. After Fantastic Four, this just solidifies her breakout and her performance was great.
Also Alex’s arc was so well done. That idea of a kid doing anything to save his parents the way they’d do anything for him was so good. That feeding montage each bag heavier than the last really said it all without needing much dialogue. You can tell he wasn’t driven by evil or confusion, but straight up love and desperation. Like he just wanted it to end and was trying to mitigate the situation.
Really liked it. Definitely one of those movies that’s better on a big screen. See it in theaters while you still can. Worth it.
