Squid Game
Just finished watching the final season and saw a lot of people on the internet hating this, especially the ending. And I’m here to defend that ending.
I think the ending was perfect. Gi-hun didn’t just survive—he proved something deeper. The Frontman believed people are naturally selfish, that when pushed, we’ll always turn on each other. But Gi-hun showed the opposite: that even in a place as brutal and hopeless as Squid Game, compassion can still exist. People can still choose to be good.
Then there’s that final line: ‘We’re not horses. We’re human beings. Human beings are...’ and he just stops. That unfinished thought hits hard. Horses act on instinct. They’re forced to fight, to race, to become someone else’s game. They run because they have no choice. Maybe that’s what Squid Game is—people driven by desperation.
But humans? We’re supposed to have a choice.
The question is: a choice to do what, exactly? That’s where it gets messy. Gi-hun saw it all—greed, betrayal, cruelty, but also love, sacrifice, and kindness. So what does it really mean to be human?
We use the word ‘humanity’ like it means compassion or empathy, but the people who built the game were human. The ones who killed and betrayed were human. So is kindness the only true version of humanity—or is it all part of us?
Maybe that’s why he couldn’t finish the sentence. Maybe he didn’t have the answer. And honestly, neither do we. Humanity isn’t just good or bad—we’re capable of everything. The word means nothing by itself. What we choose to do with it is what defines us.
I’m going to miss this series, the cast, the vibe. Hollywood will never top this, mark my word.
wow just wrote my first puff piece, kinda proud of myself :)
