The Pianist
Honestly, this is probably the hardest WWII movie to watch. It’s so sad watching Szpilman go from having a proper, decent job to struggling just to find something to eat.
There are a few scenes that completely wrecked me, like that homeless man eating porridge off the dirty ground, the kid getting killed, the old man, and that stressful scene where he drops his last can of food.
The biggest plot twist of sadness is definitely the irony at the end. The German captain who actually helped him ends up dying in a prison camp, and Szpilman never got the chance to pay him back.
