I mean, Jesus, I knew it was going to be good but I still didn’t expect this.
I always appreciate when a movie makes me contemplate why each choice was made during production. Because when watching a movie, you always hope they try to give it the best they can, really make the best of their art. Now this of course comes in a spectrum, either making you wonder if any thought was put in at all, or making you appreciate how clear it is that the thought was there. But either way you realize that what you’re watching is human, it’s a piece of art that was worth the effort to get out into the world.
This movie is what I now think I can put on one end of that spectrum. At the start you are launched into a story, which I thought was a rushed beginning at first, but once you settle in you realize that there’s just too much to tell to start slowly, you’ll find your place either way so might as well leap in. Making choices like these, trusting yourself as a director, is something that I think showcases how thought out and well organized a project like this is.
The amazing thing is that I think this movie lands every single one of these choices. I don’t think there’s a single unnecessary scene or moment in here.
Now of course this is only a first watch and I’m still coming down from the excitement of it all, but I just hope to god that the next time I watch this is can still say that I didn’t expect it to be as good as it is.
